Word counter questions
How does the word counter count words?
It counts every run of letters or numbers as one word, so a hyphenated word like well-known and a contraction like don't each count as one, and a number like 3.14 counts as one. This is close to how Microsoft Word counts, though tools can differ by a few words.
How is reading time worked out?
Reading time uses 238 words a minute, the usual average for adults reading silently. Speaking time uses 150 words a minute, a comfortable pace for a speech or voiceover.
Is my text sent anywhere?
No. The counter runs entirely in your browser and your text is never uploaded or stored.
Is there a word limit?
No limit is set, but very long texts may feel slow on an old phone. For a thesis, count it chapter by chapter.
